Dominik Mysterio: The Rising Star of WWE

Diksia.com - Dominik Mysterio is a name that wrestling fans have known about since he was just a boy. First being introduced to the WWE Universe via the storyline between Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero, he has since gone on to become a top WWE Superstar himself.

He is currently signed to WWE, where he performs on the Raw brand under the ring name “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio as a member of The Judgment Day and is the current NXT North American Champion.

How Dominik Mysterio Became a Wrestler

Dominik Mysterio was born on April 5, 1997, in San Diego, California. He is the son of Angie and Óscar Gutiérrez, better known as Rey Mysterio, one of the most popular and successful wrestlers of all time. He has a younger sister, Aalyah Gutiérrez.

Dominik grew up around wrestling, thanks to attending WWE events as a child to see his father. He had his first direct involvement when he was 8 years old in 2005, which was a storyline in which his father battled Eddie Guerrero over his legal custody.

During the storyline, Guerrero stated that he was Dominik’s biological father. On August 21, Mysterio defeated Guerrero in a ladder match for custody of Dominik at SummerSlam.

He made two more appearances in 2006, first at WrestleMania 22 with Angie and Aalyah watching his father win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time and second on the September 15 edition of SmackDown! where he watched backstage as his father battled with Mr. Kennedy.

Dominik then stayed away from wrestling for over a decade, focusing on his education and personal life. He graduated from high school in 2015 and got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Marie Juliette in 2019.

He also began training to become a wrestler in 2017 under the guidance of his father and other mentors such as Jay Lethal, Konnan, and Lance Storm.

Dominik Mysterio’s WWE Career

Dominik made his return to WWE television in 2019, when he accompanied his father to confront Brock Lesnar on the premiere episode of Raw on October 4.

Lesnar attacked both of them, leaving them injured. Dominik then started appearing with his father on WWE television, supporting him in his matches and feuds.

In 2020, Dominik began a feud with Seth Rollins, who had attacked his father and injured his eye at Extreme Rules. Rollins also tried to recruit Dominik to join his faction, The Monday Night Messiah, but Dominik refused.

This led to Dominik’s debut match at SummerSlam on August 23, where he faced Rollins in a street fight. Despite putting up a valiant effort and having his father and mother by his side, Dominik lost the match after Rollins hit him with a curb stomp.

Dominik then formed a tag team with his father and continued their rivalry with Rollins and his allies. They also had a brief feud with King Corbin, who mocked their family and tried to injure them.

On December 20 at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, Dominik and Rey defeated The Hurt Business (Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin) to win the Raw Tag Team Championship for the first time. They became the first father and son team to win a tag team championship in WWE history.

In 2021, Dominik and Rey defended their titles against various teams such as The Dirty Dawgs (Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode), The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford), and The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso). They also moved to SmackDown as part of the 2021 WWE Draft.

On May 16 at WrestleMania Backlash, they defeated The Dirty Dawgs to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship for the first time. They became the first team to win both the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships.

However, their reign was short-lived as they lost the titles to The Usos on July 16 on SmackDown. This led to a rematch at Money in the Bank on July 18, where they failed to regain the titles after Dominik accidentally hit Rey with a 619. After the match, Rey tried to console Dominik, but Dominik pushed him away and walked out on him.

On the July 23 episode of SmackDown, Dominik turned heel by attacking Rey and aligning himself with The Judgment Day, a new stable led by Rollins and consisting of Murphy, Austin Theory, and Toni Storm.

Dominik revealed that he had joined the group because he felt that Rey had held him back and that he wanted to make his own name in WWE. He also adopted a new ring name, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio, and a new look, wearing a leather jacket and sunglasses.

Dominik then battled his father in a grudge match at SummerSlam on August 21, where he lost after Rey hit him with a 619 and a frog splash. After the match, Rey hugged Dominik and tried to reconcile with him, but Dominik refused and left with The Judgment Day.

On the August 27 episode of SmackDown, Dominik challenged Rey to a Loser Leaves WWE match at Extreme Rules on September 26. Rey accepted the challenge, saying that he would do anything to save his son from Rollins’ influence.

On September 14, Dominik made his debut on NXT, where he attacked Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and declared himself as the new NXT North American Champion.

He claimed that he had won the title by defeating Scott in a dark match before NXT went on the air. He also said that he was the future of NXT and that he would take over the brand with The Judgment Day.

Dominik Mysterio is one of the most talented and promising wrestlers in WWE today. He has proven himself as a singles and tag team competitor, winning multiple championships and having memorable matches.

He has also shown his versatility as a character, playing both a heroic and villainous role. He has followed in his father’s footsteps, but also carved his own path in the industry. He is the rising star of WWE and a future world champion.
