Plot Summary
The novel begins with Kas celebrating her 18th birthday with her family and friends at the Silver Moon pack house. She notices that Zane is acting strangely around her, but she does not know why. She also feels some changes in her body, such as increased strength, speed, and senses.
The next day, she wakes up to find that she has grown wings and feathers on her back. She panics and hides them under her clothes. She goes to school with Kade and Zane, but she feels sick and faints in class. Zane takes her to his house and reveals that he knows what she is going through. He tells her that he is her mate and that he loves her. He also explains that she is a hybrid of a werewolf and a phoenix, which is very rare and powerful.
Kas is shocked and confused by this revelation. She does not know how to react to Zane’s confession or to her new identity. She also worries about how her adoptive father, Alpha Damien, will react to this news. She decides to keep it a secret from him until she figures out what to do.
However, their secret does not last long, as they are attacked by rogue werewolves who want to capture Kas for their leader, Alpha Lucas. Lucas is an evil alpha who wants to use Kas’s blood for his experiments. He also has a personal vendetta against Damien, as he blames him for the death of his mate and son.
Zane and Kas manage to escape from the rogues, but they are injured and exhausted. They seek refuge in a nearby cabin, where they confess their feelings for each other and consummate their bond. They also discover that Kas has another ability: she can heal herself and others with her tears.
They return to the pack house, where they face the wrath of Damien, who is furious that they kept their relationship and Kas’s hybrid status from him. He does not approve of their bond, as he thinks that Zane is not worthy of Kas. He also fears that Kas will be in danger because of her uniqueness. He orders them to stay away from each other until he decides what to do with them.
