Diksia.com - SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is expected to attend the 10th World Water Forum in Bali. Its presence also serves to directly launch Starlink services to residential customers in Indonesia.
The opening moment is planned for President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This was stated by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
Luhut said that the plane carrying the head of the US technology giant would land on the Island of the Gods on Sunday (May 19, 2024) at 8:00 a.m. WITA.
“Elon Musk will land in Bali at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning. We have arranged all methods,” Luhut told journalists at Kura Kura Bali on Saturday (May 18, 2024).
Luhut said Elon Musk will launch his Starlink internet service at a community health center in Bali this afternoon.
In addition to Luhut, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Communications and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi and Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono are scheduled to participate, according to detikFinance.
“This is a good step to ensure that our remote areas are provided with good internet, and this will be good for health and education,” Luhut said.
The launch of Starlink for residential customers further strengthens Elon Musk’s satellite-based internet business in Indonesia. Previously, Starlink only served business customers by providing backhaul for Telkomsat, a subsidiary of Telkom.
Meanwhile, Kominfo has stated that Starlink has passed the Operational Worthiness Test (ULO). This means the internet satellite constellation can sell internet to people across Indonesia.
Currently, Starlink internet prices in Indonesia are known to start at IDR 750,000 per month. However, this connection does not include signal reception hardware, which reaches IDR 7.8 million.
