Diksia.com - CALIFORNIA, Twitter has threatened to sue Meta Platform Inc. following the launch of the Threads application on Thursday (06/07/2023).

Alex Spiro, an attorney representing Twitter, sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, accusing the company of stealing trade secrets by hiring former Twitter employees.

“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights,” Spiro said.

“We request that Meta take immediate steps to stop its use of Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.”

Meanwhile, Meta spokesman Andy Stone firmly rejected the letter.

“Nobody on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee,” Stone said.

Unlike some of Twitter’s competitors, the Threads app has seen rapid growth, with Zuckerberg reporting that 30 million users signed up on the first day of its release. As of Thursday afternoon (6/7/2023), Threads topped the list of applications available for free download on the iOS App Store.

Twitter Restrictions

As is well known, Twitter has come under a lot of scrutiny lately, especially when Elon Musk decided to limit the number of tweets users can read.

Musk said these restrictions were aimed at combating extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.

After successfully acquiring Twitter last October, Musk transformed the social media platform, angering advertisers and some of its most prominent users.

Earlier this week, Twitter also launched a new version of the TweetDeck service that offers richer functionality. However, this service is only available to verified users, meaning users who sign up on a monthly basis.
