Diksia.com - CALIFORNIA, On Wednesday night (07/05/2023) local time, Meta Platform Inc officially launched a new app called Threads.
From the layout to the product descriptions, the app seems to have a lot in common with Twitter. The list, which first appeared as a teaser earlier this week, emphasized its potential to build a following and connect with like-minded people.
“Threads’ vision is to create an open and welcoming public space for conversation,” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, in a post after Threads was published.
“We hope to get the most out of Instagram and create new experiences around text, ideas and discussions about your thoughts.”
Zuckerberg describes the app as a place, or platform, for a community to come together to discuss everything from topics that interest them today to current trends.
“No matter what interests you, you can instantly follow and connect with your favorite content creators and other like-minded people, or build your own loyal following to share your ideas, opinions and creativity with the world,” he said .
According to Meta, messages sent to threads are limited to 500 characters. In addition, the company will gradually release the application to Apple iOS and Android users in 100 countries.
Twitter Restrictions
The launch of the Threads app comes after Twitter owner Elon Musk imposed a cap on the number of tweets users can read.
Musk said these restrictions are intended to combat extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation.
After successfully acquiring Twitter last October, Musk transformed the social media platform, angering advertisers and some of its most prominent users.
Earlier this week, Twitter also rolled out a new version of the TweetDeck service that offers richer functionality. However, this service is only available to verified users, meaning users who sign up on a monthly basis.
