Diksia.com - CALIFORNIA, CEO of Meta Platform Inc. Mark Zuckerberg said social media platform Threads has grown significantly.
He claimed that the Twitter competitor application had around 70 million users on the second day after its launch. This rapid growth is supported by the fact that Threads is linked to the existing social network Instagram.
Users can log into Instagram with their existing username and keep some of their followers while others sign up for the app.
“Meta only needs one in four Instagram users using threads each month to grow as big as Twitter,” Jasmine Enberg, chief analyst at Insider Intelligence, said in a statement Friday (7/7/2023).
Twitter owner Elon Musk appears to have expressed some concern about Threads when his longtime attorney Alex Spiro wrote a letter to Meta accusing the company of “unlawful misuse” of trade secrets.
“Nobody on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee,” said Andy Stone, Meta’s director of communications.
However, growth alone will not be enough to make Threads a Twitter alternative. The meta must also demonstrate that the Threads application is capable of actively engaging its users.
Twitter itself is known to be widely used by journalists, politicians and academics and is a place where news is frequently broadcast.
Meanwhile, Meta has taken steps to de-emphasize political content on Facebook. This policy, when adopted in threads, will differ from Twitter.
“News eaters and avid Twitter loyalists are unlikely to migrate off the social media platform, and Meta needs to keep threads interesting to maintain momentum after novelty wears off,” Enberg said.
However, Axios said that many politicians and more than a quarter of members of the US Congress have become users of the Threads social network.
