Diksia.com - Meta has finally released a Twitter competitor application called Threads. Previously, there were rumors about this thread app called “Twitter Killer”.
You can download the Threads app on iOS or Android. In addition to using your mobile phone, you can also access Threads through the website https://www.threads.net/.
Instagram head Adam Mosseri was quoted by The Verge as saying, “Starting Threads is an opportunity to build something open.”
“Obviously, Twitter pioneered this space,” Mosseri said.
“But with everything that’s happened, we thought there was an opportunity to build something open,” he continued.
In Threads, you can create text-based posts of up to 500 characters and share photos and videos of up to five minutes.
The app looks a lot like Twitter and has a minimal interface with options to like, comment, repost, and share threads.
Because Threads is closely tied to Instagram, you can log in with your Instagram username and easily follow the same people you follow on other platforms.
Just like Instagram, the main feed in Threads contains recommended content and posts from people you follow.
There doesn’t seem to be an option to switch between recommended content streams and just following those on Twitter, but Meta can always add that later.
Meta also extends some of Instagram’s privacy controls to threads, such as the ability to filter specific words in replies.
You can also limit who can reply to your threads to everyone on the platform, people you follow, or only users you mention in your posts.
The launch of threads comes at a time when Twitter is imposing further restrictions on users.
This includes a temporary rate cap that prohibits unverified users from viewing more than 600 posts per day.
Many tech companies have tried to capitalize on the Twitter craze over the past few months.
However, according to The New York Times, Threads has its own advantages over other similar applications.
Threads is backed by Meta’s substantial budget and Instagram’s massive user base of over two billion monthly active users worldwide.
“I think there should be a public chat app with over 1 billion people.”
“Twitter had the opportunity to do this, but was not successful. Hopefully we can do that,” Mark Zuckerberg said on Wednesday (05/07/2023) via his Threads account.
When it first launched, Meta Threads published in over 100 countries, including the United States.
However, the Threads app is not yet available in the European Union.

Threads is positioned as an application that allows people to have real-time public conversations with each other.
Threads also helps improve Instagram, the most important app in Meta’s suite of products.
Instagram tied the thread tightly around itself.
If you want to register for the new app, you currently need an Instagram account.
For those who already have an Instagram account, the username on Threads will also be the same as on Instagram.
If needed, users can import their list of people they follow on Instagram directly into Thread.
Users verified by Instagram will also be verified in the new app.
Users can set their Threads account as private or public.
Differences to Twitter
Although similar to Twitter, it turns out that Threads has a difference.
In-app threads don’t support direct messages like Twitter.
However, Instagram says it will add the feature to Threads if new users request it.
