Diksia.com - Elon Musk sparked another controversy when he accused immigrants from Haiti of being cannibals and said they should not be allowed to immigrate to the United States. This call came after political unrest in the island nation worsened.
Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry said he would resign if other Caribbean countries wanted to form an interim government in his name. The statement angered Haitians, sparked mass protests and tires were burned in the streets.
Well, Musk took to his social media X to discuss the unconfirmed and sensational claims of cannibalism that arose from the conflict. He tweeted a link to a video that he claimed showed evidence of cannibalism in Haiti. The video was immediately deleted by X.
In other words, even Musk’s own social media company didn’t support the post. Since Musk took over the company formerly known as Twitter, hate speech there has been increasing rapidly.
Musk makes some racist comments on his platform. Last January, he argued that black students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have lower IQs and therefore should not become pilots.
Over the weekend, Musk tweeted about cannibal gangs in Haiti. “Civilization is fragile,” he wrote in response to a now-deleted video that claimed a gang of cannibals were eating human body parts
Musk was joined this week by right-wing commentator Ian Miles Cheong, who argued on X earlier this week that there are gangs of cannibals in Haiti who kidnap and eat people.
“If the desire to screen immigrants for potential murderous and cannibalistic tendencies makes me a ‘right-winger,’ then I will happily accept such a designation!” Musk wrote. “If this does not happen, innocent Americans will be at risk of death,” he added, without providing evidence to support his claim.
The post was likely gang propaganda intended to incite fear. While it is still possible that the gang leaders were capable of such horrific acts, generalizing is misleading. A US State Department spokesman said they had not received any credible reports of cannibalism in Haiti.
