Diksia.com - Police officers in Baltimore, Maryland, United States of America (USA) are on the hunt for a gunman in a shooting on Sunday (February 7, 2023).
Two people were killed and 28 injured in the incident, which took place at a party in a residential area.
According to Al Jazeera, the incident joins the latest record of deadly gun violence in the United States.
“The attack occurred at exactly 12:30 local time on Sunday in the Brooklyn Homes neighborhood in the south of the city,” Baltimpre Police Department Acting Chief Richard Whalley told reporters at the scene.
“Twenty-eight people were injured, about half of them under the age of 18,” Worley added.
NBC-affiliated Baltimore TV station WBAL-TV reported that the injured ranged in age from 13 to 32.
An 18-year-old woman died at the scene.
A 20-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.
Three people were subsequently hospitalized in critical condition.
Six others were also treated.
Brooklyn Day
The shooting occurred as hundreds of people gathered in the area for an event known as “Brooklyn Day,” where they rode ponies, danced and drank.
No arrests were made in the immediate aftermath of the attack, and Worley said police were searching for multiple suspects and investigating their motives for the shooting.
“This is a big crime scene. Detectives will be here for a while,” he said.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the shooting could be one of the largest single gun violence incidents in Baltimore since 2014 in terms of casualties.
The report cites the earliest data held by the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive.
The shooting occurred during rallies across the country ahead of the Fourth of July holiday, Independence Day.
Celebrations are usually marked by barbecues, fireworks and parades.
Seven people were also injured in other parts of the country in the Kansas shooting.
Meanwhile, on Sunday (7 February 2023) morning, two people were hospitalized after people were trampled as they rushed out of a nightclub.
