Diksia.com - The United States (US) Secret Service is conducting an investigation after cocaine was found in the White House.
Cocaine was found in the West Wing of the White House on Sunday (07/02/2023).
According to a source, the white powder was found during a routine inspection.
A field test later found the substance to be positive for cocaine.
The cocaine was found on the first floor of the White House near the West Executive entrance, where visitors are usually asked to put down their cell phones.
It is known that some (non-public) visitors can visit the west wing and this usually happens on weekends.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that there were visits last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“Where this was found is a busy area in the west wing of the White House. I have to be more specific, visitors to the west wing will come through this area. I have nothing more to share,” he said on Wednesday (5/7/2023), as reported by ABC News.
“This is being investigated by the Secret Service. It’s within his reach.”
“So we will allow the investigation to proceed naturally and we are confident that the Secret Service will resolve this matter,” he said.
The existence of Joe Biden
US President Joe Biden and his family were not there when cocaine was found in the White House.
Karine Jean-Pierre, as Joe Biden’s main spokeswoman, insisted that the US President’s family was not present at the time.
“The President, the First Lady and their families are not here over the weekend,” he said Wednesday, quoted by CNA.
“They left on Friday and came back yesterday,” stressed Jean-Pierre.
He continued, Joe Biden has been briefed and everyone working in the White House is subject to strict guidelines, which include drug testing.
“Of course we take it very seriously,” he said.
For your information, according to the US Drug Enforcement Agency, cocaine has a high potential for abuse.
Later, the West Wing is a large multi-story White House that houses the offices of the President of the United States, including the Oval Office and the Situation Room.
It also houses the office of the vice president, the White House chief of staff, the press secretary, and hundreds of other employees who have access.
As The Guardian reports, this isn’t the first time illegal drugs have entered the White House.
Rapper Snoop Dogg said he smoked weed in the bathroom in 2013.
Willie Nelson later admitted to smoking together on the roof of the White House during the era of President Jimmy Carter.
British actor Erkan Mustafa says he smoked marijuana and used cocaine during a visit to the White House during First Lady Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” anti-drug campaign.
