Diksia.com - TOKYO, The waters of the Tatsuta River, which flows through the city of Ikoma in Nara Prefecture, turn neon green.

According to the city, there does not seem to be any impact on the human body so far, but appeals to the population not to touch the river water or use it for agriculture.

At around 5:00 am on July 5, 2023, local residents reported that the Tatsuta River, which flows through Ikoma City, had turned green.

According to the city of Ikoma, there is no unpleasant odor and simple city and provincial tests confirm no toxicity.

The fish have also been confirmed to be swimming in the river. It is assumed that there is no direct impact on the human body or the ecosystem.

When the city and prefecture investigated the river upstream to determine the cause, they found that the green water flowing from the “Mochi River” flowed into the Tatsuta River and a red-brown substance on the fence along the Mochi -River stuck.

When this substance is doused with water, it turns green, so the city suspects this substance as the cause and investigates the ingredient.

As a precaution, the city urges residents to be careful not to touch the river water or use it for agriculture.

On the other hand, no change in the color of the river water was confirmed in the city of Heguri, which is located downstream of the Tatsuta River and borders the city of Ikoma.

A man who lives about two kilometers downstream from the source of the discoloration said: “When I woke up in the morning, the river near my house was green. I was wondering if something was wrong so I came to see… the color has changed but I don’t feel a difference like the smell.”
