Diksia.com - King Charles III. and US President Joe Biden finally met on Monday (10/07/2023).
Previously, Joe Biden caused a stir by not being present at King Charles’ coronation last May.
Now the President is visiting the King at Windsor Castle.
The meeting was said to be less strict because Joe Biden had broken royal protocol on several occasions.
Citing SheKnows, after disembarking from his Marine One helicopter, Joe Biden was ushered onto the green fields of Windsor Castle, where a Welsh Guards marching band ceremoniously played “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
In that moment of pomp and circumstance, the President seemed to pat King Charles on the back.
The touch happened several times during their meeting.
As royal observers knew, one should not touch any part of the king’s body unless they were permitted to, such as when the king held out his hand in a handshake.
Despite this, no one objected as it seemed that the king was sympathetic to the offence.
A Buckingham Palace insider told The Daily Beast:
“His Majesty the King is perfectly content with this kind of contact.”
“And what a beautiful symbol of warmth and love between individuals and their nations.”
So the touch of a hand on the back means nothing.
Profile of King Charles III
Charles Philip Arthur George or Charles III. became King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 8 September 2022 on the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.
His official coronation took place on May 6, 2023.
To quote Britannica: Charles III. is the eldest child of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Charles III was born on November 14, 1948 and was 74 years old when he ascended the throne.
Training
After attending private schools at Buckingham Palace, London, Hampshire and Scotland, Charles entered Trinity College, Cambridge in 1967.
There he received his bachelor’s degree in 1971, the first obtained by an heir to the British Crown.
He also spent a term at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth where he studied Welsh in preparation for his coronation as Prince of Wales on 1 July 1969 at Caernarvon Castle.
He later attended the Royal Air Force College (distinguished aviator) and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.
From 1971 to 1976 he served in the Royal Navy.
He later became an outspoken critic of modern architecture.
Charles expressed his views on the subject in A Vision of Britain (1989).
In 1992 he founded the Prince of Wales’s Architectural Institute, which later became the BRE Trust, an organization involved in urban renewal and development projects.
Family and marriage
On July 29, 1981, Charles married Lady Diana Frances Spencer, daughter of the 8th Earl Spencer.
The wedding became a global media event, televised live and watched by hundreds of millions of people.
Upon her marriage, Diana assumed the title Princess of Wales.
The couple’s first child, Prince William of Wales, was second in line to the throne at birth (21 June 1982).
Their second child, Prince Henry Charles Albert David (known as Harry), was born on September 15, 1984.
Charles’ marriage to Diana gradually fell apart due to intense media scrutiny and rumors of infidelity.
On December 9, 1992, it was announced that Charles and Diana had decided to separate but would continue to carry out their public duties and share responsibility for raising their son.
The couple divorced on August 28, 1996.
A year later, Diana died in a car accident.
On April 9, 2005, Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles (born 1947).
Camilla Parker Bowles then assumed the title of Duchess of Cornwall.
