Diksia.com - A 64-year-old woman in China searches for her daughter who has been separated from her for 40 years.
She wanted to give her husband’s inheritance of 1 million yuan, or around 2 billion rupiah, to her daughter.
His search efforts were broadcast on Chinese television.
Citing scmp.com, Wang Yunjuan from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, shared the story of his separation from his daughter on June 30 in the Xiao Qiang Re Xian program.
When 21-year-old Wang was pregnant with her daughter in 1981, her husband was sentenced to life imprisonment for assault.
The husband only briefly met their daughter once in prison after she was born on May 12, 1982.
Wang said that due to the “bad situation,” a group of elders from her husband’s family came in 1983 when he was not at home.
They took their daughter to Beijing and gave her to another family for adoption.
Wang has not seen his daughter since then.
The pain of separation weighed heavily on Wang.
When her husband was released from prison on a reduced sentence in 1998, they decided they would not have any more children and decided to find their daughter together.
“My husband told me we should find our daughter and save money for her,” Wang said.
“However, his sister told him that the child was fine and that he would not look for him.”
The couple initially decided not to interfere in their daughter’s new life.
But the older they got, the greater their longing for their daughter.
Wang told Tide News:
“In between I couldn’t take it and even asked a friend in Beijing to ask questions and was told my daughter didn’t even know she was adopted.”
The couple hesitated to find him.
They feel guilty over their more than 40-year absence and fear that her husband’s criminal record could affect their daughter’s future.
But just when they finally felt ready in 2021 and wanted to start looking for their daughter, her husband died of a heart attack in 2022 at the age of 69.
Since her husband’s death, Wang has been determined to find her daughter and fulfill her husband’s will to donate her life savings of over 1 million yuan.
