Diksia.com - An overpass still under construction suddenly collapsed on Monday night (October 7th, 2023) in the Lat Krabang district of Bangkok.

According to Thaipbsworld, two people were killed, 13 people were injured and one person is still missing in the incident.

Five injured were taken to Jularat Hospital.

Eight other people were taken to Lat Krabang Hospital.

The traffic radio station JS100 reported the unfortunate incident at 19:48 local time.

Local official Khatchaya Kamyan said one of the deceased was identified as the engineer who oversaw the construction of the flyover.

The National Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) is still investigating and trying to find more victims.

Debris from the shattered steel structure hit a roadside commercial building, the Bangkok Post reported.

As a result, all traffic to the crash site was closed.

The government also advised commuters to avoid the area.

The collapsed steel structure was part of the Onnuch-Lat Krabang flyover project, which is scheduled for completion next year.

Bangkok Metropolitan signed a contract with joint venture Tharawan Construction Ltd and Napa Construction Co, Ltd in February 2021.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt was spotted visiting the site.

The man said the cause of the accident was not yet known.

“That shouldn’t have happened during the construction process,” he said, quoted by Khaosodenglish.

“It is believed that this was caused by the instability of the construction work,” he added.

The governor fears there will be more casualties.

He urged people in the area to inform the authorities if a loved one is missing.
